Pre-Migration Celebration EarthQuest School Programs

Since 2003, Friends of the Brazoria Wildlife Refuges, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, EarthQuest, and local sponsors have brought a Birds of Prey show to area schools in conjunction with Migration Celebration.

The Birds of Prey program is a 30-minute environmental education outreach effort utilizing several different raptors including a Peregrine Falcon, Andean Condor, Black Vulture, Red-tailed Hawk, Barred Owl and Harris Hawk.

In 2010, we conducted 31 shows at 27 schools in the Brazosport, Angleton, Danbury, Sweeny, Van Vleck, Brazoria-Columbia, Damon, Bay City and Alvin school districts.   Approximately 14,275 students, teachers and administrators attended this educational event.

The school programs are not open to the general public.

About EarthQuest

Steve Hoddy, EarthQuest Falconer

EarthQuest was created by Steve Hoddy and Robert Sinker in 1989 as an answer to the growing problems facing our environment and the world's wildlife.   Steve has been training animals for over 35 years.   In 1972, Steve found what was believed to be the last wild California Condor eyrie.   In 1973, Steve was asked to assist Jim Fowler of Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom handle a Harpy Eagle for the Johnny Carson show.   Jim's environmental education messages inspired Steve to do his part to educate the public to help save the environment.   Steve served as an educational director as well as an animal program consultant for 8 years in Silver Springs, Florida.   In 1990, Steve left Silver Springs to promote EarthQuest.
